Immigration Policy: Freedom to Control

I like to consider myself a libertarian. Ever since the Ron Paul campaign of 2008, I have gradually drifted toward the libertarian side. I remained this way until this past year or so. Though, I don’t blame the Trump phenomenon for pushing me to the right on immigration policy. Even though I understand the concerns of many people regarding our southern border, it was actually the immigration news from Europe that has begun to tilt my views on the political spectrum.

Europe has an immigration problem and it is no secret to anyone. Chancellor Merkel of Germany has recently been at the front of EU open borders policy for Muslim immigration which has resulted, in what I consider, vast changes in demographics. Now, obviously, I am not pointing in order to keep Europe white or anything like that. In fact, I was for open borders for a couple years until recently. I still believe that truly free society has open borders.

However, I do think that culture shock is a real thing and this is what is happening in many small communities throughout Europe. Many small towns are being asked or forced to accept refugees. Some seem to be asked little by little and other seem to be asked to take it a large number at once. The point is that that large numbers of refugees are changing the demographics immensely in as little as ten years time.

Another concern is who these refugees are. Americans actually have a lot in common with our Mexican neighbors. They both share a common faith and where there is a similar faith there are similar values. This is not the case in Europe and the Middle East. There is no similarity in faith and absolutely not shared interest in liberal ideas (classical or modern).

I am less concerned with immigration from higher developed Muslim nations such as the UAE or Oman. These countries have interacted with western powers for decades and their governments have actually enforced laws in their own countries in way which allows westerners to travel and do business. But the concern is not from these countries. Omani citizens are not seeking refugee status. The concern is for refugees from countries like Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia.

These primitive nations are homes to the most terrorist and radical Islamic activity. This is what some people in Washington have called “high risk” countries. This is completely legitimate and terrorism is not the only concern. As stated before, the culture is the concern. These refugees enter Europe in large numbers and they settle in towns and areas that are already demographically similar to their own culture. This means that they do not assimilate.

Assimilation is not a bad thing. Every time I hear someone bring up assimilation, the left seems to respond as if the thought of it is racist and bigotry. No one is asking anyone to completely give up their religion and culture. We are asking you to be ready to learn from us and adopt similar values so we can continue to do business and trade with one another. Assimilation is a must for society to function smoothly and more and more refugees are failing to do so. They bring their poor habits that are often found in their primitive nations such as rape and violence. Of course, who can blame them? They are not leaving their homes because they want to join Europe. They are leaving because they don’t want to die in their own country. They have almost no say in the matter.

Radical Muslims within Europe are taking advantage of the situation. They are forming large and popular groups among new European Muslims, converting new Muslims, and continuing the culture of mass breeding. Non-assimilated Muslims breed at a rate much higher than that of other Europeans. They understand how this benefits them and have said openly that some day they will outnumber Europeans and THEY will take over.

However, things may or may not be changing in Europe. There is blowback to much of EU policy within Europe and I can guarantee it is keeping Merkel up at night. In response, “far right” parties are gaining support and polls are beginning to appear in favor of BREXIT. Now we can only hope that the fiery response will actually come with a solution and the often violent result of mass culture shock can be avoided.

Overwhelming Primary Season

If someone had asked me how I felt about the coming presidential elections a year ago I would have told them all about how excited I was. I had a candidate that I was able to root for and couldn’t wait to see him on the debate stage. Today, I am warn out and am literally tired of every news headline that is related to the subject. Though, this isn’t the first time I have had this feeling. I was less interested in the 2012 elections but I remember getting bored of the news half way through the season just as I am now.

Have you ever thought that the presidential selection process was a little bit too long? If we could just cut this whole thing in half then I think it would be far more bearable. Too often do I catch myself in social situations where I am asked about my opinion regarding something Bernie did or something Trump did that I am not even aware happened. Coming from someone who has a large interest in current events and politics, I just don’t
care.

Honestly, I really think that we would be doing this entire republic a favor if we turned the whole election process into a five day super dome combat session that was televised for the nations viewing pleasure.

Okay, so this is why I am here

I am not sure if I am here for a clear purpose or even if I will be sticking around. I have a few ideas of what I want to do with this. I may use them all or just stick to one. Most importantly, I want to practice writing. I want to create a routine. Perhaps we could say that this is a personal challenge. A challenge to improve my writing and vocabulary. A challenge to create a new habit that is productive or beneficial rather than a detrimental like eating too much, playing games, or eating some more. We will just have to wait and see.
